The Practice Team & Their Qualifications

Nic Allen Dentist (full-time) BDS - First Registered July '72 - GDC number: 46200 Treatment offered general family dentistry,intravenous sedation and implants Nic joined Heatherstone Dental Practice on qualification from Guys Hospital in London in 1972. Apart from a brief spell in a practice in Winchester he has helped care for the people of Romsey for 30 years. From 'tea boy' to senior partner, he says that he doesn't treat patients any more, but just looks after his friends. Special interests include rebuilding confidence for nervous patients, including sedation (needle in the arm), cosmetic dentistry and implants. His approach is both sympathetic and practical, gearing his recommended treatment to what he would want done in his own mouth, but always carefully explaining the options available. Away from the surgery, Nic has travelled extensively, done advanced home improvements on a succession of his local homes and has written 20,000-line computer programmes both for the practice and for another business. He has resigned from directorships of two other companies he helped start to give him more time to concentrate on his patients and nowadays he is usually found trying to establish his large garden, which he hopes to open for charity one day. Richard Hurrell Dentist (full-time) BDS MFGDP - First Registered December \\'83 - GDC number: 58545 Treatment offered - general family dentistry Richard qualified from Guy\\'s Hospital, London in 1983, then spent 18 months as an Oral Surgery House officer at Guy\\'s Hospital then later at The North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke. In 1985 he entered General Dental Practice, and worked as an associate dentist in practices at Basingstoke, Liphook and Haslemere, before joining Heatherstone Dental Practice in April 1991. In 1995 he became a Partner at Heatherstone Dental Practice. Richard is married with 3 children aged 10, 13 and 16 who keep him busy. He likes to keep fit, and since 1997, has run in 18 marathons, ten triathlons, and numerous half marathons and 10 mile runs. Back to Top

Ken Shelvey Dentist (full-time) BDS - First Registered July \'77 - GDC number: 51087 Treatment offered general family dentistry Ken qualified from Liverpool University in 1977 and went straight into a Liverpool general practice as an associate. There he remained for two years before getting itchy feet to return to the South once again. Originating from Essex, he never did perfect the \"Scouse\" accent and couldn\'t understand a word his patients\' said! The rest is history....he joined Heatherstone Dental Practice as an associate in February 1979 and has remained there ever since, becoming a partner in 1986 and taking a brief \"time out\" to marry the then practice manager Georgie, who dragged him off the shelf in 1990 at the grand old age of thirty six. The party animal in him was soon quashed with the blessing of the birth of Bethany in 1992 and Lauren in 1994. When not acting as Taxi for his daughters Ken has kept busy as vice-chair of governors at their school and also helps in his church children\'s club. He has enjoyed many sports but now concentrates on playing tennis badly. Back to Top

Dr David Brant Dentist (full-time) BDS - First Registered December \'89 - GDC number: 64881 Treatment offered - general family dentistry and implants David was born and grew up in Sheffield. He qualified from Birmingham University Dental School in 1989 then studied advanced restorative techniques, on a part- time basis, at St Annes Clinic in Manchester and Branemark dental implants through Noblepharma. In 1997, David moved to Winchester to work at City Bridge Dental Practice. He joined Heatherstone Dental Practice and worked as an associate for 3 years before becoming a full partner in 2002. David is keen on most sports but concentrates mainly on golf these days and has a handicap of 5.. Back to Top
